Occupational THERAPY FOR children in Nassau County and surrounding areas

OT Evaluations

Occupational therapy evaluations involve fun, engaging activities in our sensory gym. Your child might play with toys, complete simple tasks, or participate in games that help us understand their skills!

Throughout the session, we will observe how your child interacts with each activity and how they communicate, move, and focus. This helps us see their strengths and identify areas where they might need support. We will also ask you some questions about your child’s development, interests, and any concerns you may have.

The evaluation typically lasts about one hour depending on your child’s age and needs. We’ll take breaks as needed to keep them comfortable.

our approach to therapy

At Planet Sensory, sessions are filled with laughter, curiosity, and encouragement! Our play-based approach to therapy creates a safe space for children to explore, learn, and take risks. Activities may focus on improving:

  • Postural control

  • Motor planning

  • Visual motor tasks

  • Self-care activities

  • Crafting or handwriting

Parents are a vital part of our therapy process. You can observe your child’s session live in the waiting area or participate and walk away from each session with tools, resources, and strategies to carry over at home.

Child working on fine motor skills during occupational therapy in Nassau County, NY

Fine Motor Development

Fine motor skills are important for so many activities of daily life— like buttoning a shirt, zipping a jacket, writing with a pencil, and eating with a fork or spoon! If your child has a difficult time doing these activities on their own or appears frustrated when trying to manipulate small items, occupational therapy can help. Your child will have fun in play-based activities that are designed to help them:

  • Independently dress and feed themselves

  • Improve their handwriting and drawing abilities

  • Develop better coordination between their hands, eyes, and body

  • Build core strength, balance, and postural control

Parents are encouraged to participate in sessions and learn new ways to support their child's motor development in everyday life.

  • Recognize and explain their emotions
